CARD GAME HITS A BULLSEYE
Adrian Ballantyne (Mornington Peninsula Leader Tuesday, August 14, 2007)

PHIL Sierakowski is making up for lost time. The Blairgowrie man created a unique darts game as a boy, but waited 30 years to patent the idea.
Now Mr Sierakowski’s game – Card Darts – is on target to be the next big thing in world darts after he signed a contract with the World Darts Federation. The board will be used in professional competition for the first time in New Zealand this month and he will take it to the world championships in Holland in October.
The game, which uses cards as dart board targets rather than the traditional design, came to Mr Sierakowski 30 years ago after a family session of cards and darts.
“I woke up one night wondering how we could play cards on a dart board,” he said.
But he shelved the idea until a chance meeting with a patenting expert revived his dream of inventing his own game.
“I did a job on this guy’s house and the day I signed off on the job I asked, “What do you do?” he said.
Two weeks later the deal was sealed.
“He said, ‘We’ll patent this around the world for you’.”

A world first took place in New Zealand last night (Tuesday) with just on 100 competitors taking part in the first ever Poker Dart tournament to be played in the world at a countrys' National Championship. While this was a new game for most, they quickly learnt the rules to play the “Royal Suit” tournament game.

Competitors were drawn in to sections of 6 with those winning 3 or more of their round robin matches progressing to the single life knock out draw. Prizes on offer were $1000 for 1st, $500 for 2nd, $240 for the 3rd Equal places.

Monty Tuhua and Robbie Grant

The Final of the event was played between Robert Grant & Monty Tuhua (Auckland) and Buck Ryan & Ian Hill (Hutt Valley).Robert& Monty won the leg on the Hearts suit leaving their opponents stuck on the 10 of Hearts. In the next suit “Spades” both pairs were hitting card for card but is was Buck who pegged the Ace to square up the score 1 all. Robert and Buck found form again in Diamonds to take that suit while Buck & Ian couldn’t get past the 7 card. In the last suit “Clubs” Robert and Monty took the lead again to finish the Ace to become the Worlds First Poker Dart Championship winners. Poker-Darts General Manager Phil Sierakowski was on hand to present the Winners & Runners up cheques along with a free board for each of them.

The New Zealand Darts Council would like to acknowledge the help and support of Poker-Darts Pty Ltd to enable us to stage this first ever tournament. Competitor feedback was excellent and we are sure other similar tournaments will now spring up around the country and indeed the world.

AMERICAN DARTS ORGANISATION

News 26th July 2007: Important Announcement:

The ADO is proud to announce the launch of a new game, and a new product to the world of Darts. Card Darts is a new and exciting board that was developed in Australia by Phil Sierakowski and is now available here in the United States, through his website, which can be accessed by clicking on the advertisement here on www.adodarts.com. Phil recently traveled from Melbourne, Australia to Long Island, New York to demonstrate the Poker-Dart board to the ADO Board of Directors at their February meeting. The board was brought to The Viking Pub in Islip, NY and put through its paces by the local crowd as well as the ADO Board. The response was overwhelmingly positive! With Phil explaining the many exciting games that can be played on this high quality bristle board with razor thin wires, the board stayed up all night and was thoroughly tested. This product has been endorsed by the WDF and the ADO, and the makers of the Poker-Dart board will be donating a portion of the United States sales to the ADO. Check out the website, it is the only place that the board is available, and you can see the board in person at some upcoming tournaments, including the USA Classic in August. The boards are now available here in the US for immediate shipping, so please take a look at the poker dart website.

NEW ZEALAND DARTS COUNCIL

News 2nd February 2007: Important Announcement:

Poker-Dart Pty Ltd – CARD DARTS: It is with extreme delight that NZ Darts are able to announce the launch of this new and exiting game. Phil Sierakowski, the inventor of the board that game is played on, recently visited NZ to give a presentation and talk on this innovative new game at the NZ Darts Council Annual General meeting on Saturday 27th January 2007. Phil stated “that this is not a “takeover of the 501 game but is a game “on it’s own” which will attract new players to the 200 year old sport of darts”.  As well as developing this product he has also put in to place a marketing plan which will see participating countries share in a percentage of the profits of any sales made in their countries. This will provide a great opportunity for countries to promote and assist theirmembers to help the sport of darts grow throughout the entire world.

The Delegates present were able to view the new board and even try their hand at a game or two. Everyone was very impressed and can see its potential as an additional separate tournament at some of our major events. As well as this many, people commented on how it would make a good a practice board by “honing” player’s accuracy. “ If you can do all the suits on this board – you’d be able to hit anything on  a 501 Board” said our Chairman “John Bright”.

Card Darts official launch date is Monday 5th February and is available to everyone, not only registered members but can only be purchased through the official Poker-Dart Pty Ltd – CARD DARTS Website www.poker-dart.com (initially delivery within 30 days NZ & Aus i.e. late Feb early March – rest of the World April/May)

NEWS FEBUARY 2007

Dear WDF Member Darts Body,

The World Darts Federation has completed a contract with Poker-Dart Pty Ltd, and has secured licensing fees for the use of the WDF name, logo and active endorsement of their new product -- the Poker-Dart board.   This is a new, fun board game --- played with darts --- on a special PUMA manufactured board, based on the rules of card games.   Games can be played individually, in teams or in tournament-style competition.

This contract can provide your organization a chance to share in the company's good fortune.   A sample minimum advertisement insert is attached.   How does it work?  Simple!   The WDF will issue an advance royalty credit of US$100 to Member Darts Bodies with websites --- providedthey work with the WDF Webmaster and include an advertisement on their site with a directional link to Poker-Dart for additional information and/or purchase of the product.   The WDF will also share a small percentage of the license fees with Member Darts Bodies without an organizational website, if they agree to publicize this product to their members, via newsletters, letters to members, tournaments, etc.   Those organizations with no website and paying US$550 in Dues, will receive a credit of US$50 toward their 2008 WDF Dues.   Those with no website and paying US$220 in Dues, will receive a credit of US$20 toward their 2008 WDF Dues.

ADVERTISE and EARN

Your organization can receive A POSSIBLE BONANZA which could help you reduce dues, pay out prizes, travel money……or just help with your own operational expenses. The WDF and Poker-Dart will provide your organization a share of royalties amounting to 7% of every sale made out of your country, through the Poker-Dart website (after your initial US$500 in gross sales).

What could this look like?   Poker-Dart sells 1000 sisal boards in Australia (at approximately US$50 per board).   The Darts Federation of Australia would receive approximately US$3500.   What if 10,000 units were sold?!!….15,000?!!…..25,000?!!   Sales of only 100 units would yield approximately US$350 for your efforts.    Simply mentioning this product on your websites, in your e-mails / letters (as the WDF will also do), will be well worth your effort!!

If your organization has a website…….and you are willing to include the attached Poker-Dart information in a prominent position on your home page……the WDF will start off by providing you with an advance royalty of US$100 (credited toward your 2008 Dues), just for your cooperation.   We are also prepared to provide a smaller amount to Member Darts Bodies who do not have a website…….if they are willing to promote the Poker-Dart product in other ways.

Remember, YOUR members can earn YOUR organization a share of royalties  ---  if sales originate anywhere in your country --- and are made through the official Poker-Dart website: www.poker-dart.com For further information or assistance, contact a member of the WDF Executive or visit the WDF website and click on the Poker-Dart advertisement.
